Microsoft je izdao reviziju sigurnosnog upozorenja s oznakom MS11-056, prvotno objavljenog 12. srpnja 2011. Izvorna se preporuka odnosi na ranjivosti komponente Microsoft Windows Client/Server Run-time Subsystem (CSRSS) na operacijskim sustavima Windows koje lokalnim napadačima omogućuju povećanje privilegija i izvršavanje proizvoljnog programskog koda.
Paket:
Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows XP
Operacijski sustavi:
Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Windows 7
Propusti su otkriveni u funkcijama "AllocConsole()", "SrvSetConsoleLocalEUDC()", "SrvSetConsoleNumberOfCommand()", "SrvWriteConsoleOutput()" i "SrvWriteConsoleOutputString()". Revizija je izdana zbog dodavanja poveznice na članak Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 2507938.
Posljedica:
Propuste mogu iskoristiti lokalni zlonamjerni korisnici, a napad može rezultirati povećanjem ovlasti napadača i pokretanjem proizvoljnog programskog koda.
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS11-056 - Important
Vulnerabilities in Windows Client/Server Run-time Subsystem Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2507938)
Published: July 12, 2011 | Updated: July 21, 2011
Version: 1.1
General Information
Executive Summary
This security update resolves five privately reported vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows Client/Server Run-time Subsystem (CSRSS). The vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to a user's system and runs a specially crafted application. An attacker must have valid logon credentials and be able to log on locally to exploit the vulnerabilities.
This security update is rated Important for all supported versions of Microsoft Windows. For more information, see the subsection, Affected and Non-Affected Software, in this section.
The security update addresses the vulnerabilities by not allowing multiple console objects to be associated with one process, by modifying the way the CSRSS initializes memory, by validating user input before use as an index for an array, and by modifying bounds checking to prevent memory corruption. For more information about the vulnerabilities, see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) subsection for the specific vulnerability entry under the next section, Vulnerability Information.
Recommendation. The majority of customers have automatic updating enabled and will not need to take any action because this security update will be downloaded and installed automatically. Customers who have not enabled automatic updating need to check for updates and install this update manually. For information about specific configuration options in automatic updating, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 294871.
For administrators and enterprise installations, or end users who want to install this security update manually, Microsoft recommends that customers apply the update at the earliest opportunity using update management software, or by checking for updates using the Microsoft Update service.
See also the section, Detection and Deployment Tools and Guidance, later in this bulletin.
Known Issues. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 2507938 documents the currently known issues that customers may experience when installing this security update. The article also documents recommended solutions for these issues. When currently known issues and recommended solutions pertain only to specific releases of this software, this article provides links to further articles.
