Executive Summary
This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in the Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 Client, formerly named the Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway Firewall Client. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an attacker leveraged a client computer to make specific requests on a system where the TMG firewall client is used.
This security update is rated Critical for Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 Client. For more information, see the subsection, Affected and Non-Affected Software, in this section.
The security update addresses the vulnerability by setting proper bounds to the NSPLookupServiceNext function. For more information about the vulnerability, see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) subsection for the specific vulnerability entry under the next section, Vulnerability Information.
Recommendation. Customers can configure automatic updating to check online for updates from Microsoft Update by using the Microsoft Update service. Customers who have not enabled automatic updating need to check for updates from Microsoft Update and install this update manually.
